About
This is the personal blog of Jeconiah Langston, a twentysomething bum currently practicing pataphysics near Boston, MA. I’m an ex-hitchhiker, a part-time radical, and a former philosophy student. I currently belong to the Semi-Holy Apostolic Church of the Ironic and serve as its erstwhile prophet.
I usually write about politics, theology, philosophy, and web & pop culture. I’m a Christ-haunted wretch, and as such most of what I write will concern the intersections of life and faith. I come from a Baptist background, but have strayed significantly. Theologically, I’m still generally conservative. Philosophically, I’m a Groucho Marxist with strong Pyrrhonian tendencies. Politically, I’m an anarchist despite being because I’m a Christian. If I weren’t, I’d be a democratic socialist because I love Scandinavia.
My current research interests (which this blog occasionally reflects) mostly have to do with postmodernism and life in the American empire. I have been particularly influenced by Richard Rorty, Gianni Vattimo, Albert Camus, Noam Chomsky, and the fragments of Jacques Derrida that I’ve been able to understand. I consider Kurt Vonnegut & Flannery O’Connor to be bona fide saints (peace be upon their heads).
There are just two quotes that best sum up who I am. The first is: “I would not want to belong to any club that would have me as a member.” The second is, well, a Gnostic secret known only to a few. I can only say that it involves Joan Didion.
Here’s a shot of me looking for the new Twilight in the greatest bookstore in America:
And here’s me expressing moral ambiguity over snuffing out the life of this Blue Crab that I caught:
