2007 book project

I’m trying to read a book per week this year. This was not a New Year’s resolution because I don’t believe in them. But I am trying to do this, and was doing really well for a while. I’ve languished lately, partly because I’ve started too many different books. I think I’ve started six other books right now so if I’m going to stick to my goal then I really need to just pick one and run with it.

Also, I was at B&N last night and saw that Joan Didion’s The Year of Magical Thinking is now in paperback. As I’m wont to do, I fondled the book for a while, remembering how damn good the book is. I highly recommend it.

Anyway, here’s where I’m at so far:

  • Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs by Chuck Klosterman
  • The Know-It-All by AJ Jacobs
  • Assassination Vacation by Sarah Vowell
  • The Partly Cloudy Patriot by Sarah Vowell
  • Budding Prospects by T.C. Boyle
  • Bird By Bird by Anne Lamott
  • Magical Thinking by Augusten BurroughsAny recommendations?

    1. I just finished High Fidelity and it was great–really easy read and some good thoughts and great music suggestions. On a different note, I read Training in Christianity by Keirkegaard. It’s hard to find the essay collection aside from in anthologies though I think. But still was excellent. I need to read it again. Now I’m working on Wicked and next is Beach Music about a guy who moves to Italy with his daughter after his wife dies. We’ll see how these 2 go.

    2. “Magical Thinking” was divine. It made me want to read everything she has ever written…I bought the paperback when I was in california.
